New report by O’Kelly Acumen for the B.C. Confederation of Forest Industries
Ahead of the hashtag#COFI2025 annual convention on April 2-4, 2025, we released a new report on the competitiveness and sustainability of the B.C. forest industry. The report includes results from a global survey of 66 senior industry leaders, who assessed the relative position of 10 key forestry jurisdictions. We’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the study, which is linked below.
The industry in BC is facing challenges on multiple fronts, with declining harvest and uncompetitive cost structures. Harvest levels and the jobs created by forestry are directly linked. When the industry declines, that impacts socio-economic benefits to the province, including revenue to government. The push for 45 million m3 of annual harvest is critical to stabilizing the forest sector, and the prosperity it delivers to communities across BC.
There are opportunities to strengthen industry with the great potential of BC, and steps we can take to improve investment attractiveness. Innovation is not just about new products. It’s also about cost improvement, optimizing supply chains, and improving efficiencies. As global markets evolve, staying competitive is critical.
